Originally known as 'Red Winemaking Trial', Penfolds RWT Bin 798 Shiraz has evolved from its early 1990s development project into one of the winery's most distinctive Barossa Valley Shiraz releases. Launched in 2000, RWT offers a refined alternative to Grange, focusing on aromatic intensity, plush texture and the seamless integration of French oak. Sourced from select Barossa Valley Shiraz vineyards, the 2019 vintage reveals layers of floral notes, glazed berry fruits and rich pastry-like aromas, complemented by savoury hints of cured meats, thyme and finely integrated oak. The palate is concentrated yet elegant, with dark cherry, blackcurrant and quince flavours balanced by cocoa-like tannins, subtle spice and a refined structure. Approachable now, it has the depth and balance to reward careful cellaring for years to come.
